Estimating cation exchange capacity from agronomic soil tests: Comparing Mehlich?3 and ammonium acetate sum of cations

نویسندگان

چکیده

Soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) measures the capability of soils to hold and release nutrients. It is an important measure for classifying planning nutrient additions, but it not included in routine soil tests offered farmers. In this study, we compared CEC measured with standard laboratory practices (neutral ammonium acetate [AAc]) estimated from agronomic test data (Mehlich-3 AAc). We applied previously published estimation methods a dataset 48 samples. Based on results, traditional underestimate by 36% Mehlich-3 24% AAc. The can be improved including aluminium (12% overestimate) or fitting localized pedotransfer function (3% underestimate), which offers possibility informing land managers about their holding without adding costs analysis.

Use of Diffusion to Determine Soil Cation-Exchange Capacity by Ammonium Saturation

Soil cation-exchange capacity (CEC) is often determined by NH4 saturation, using a 1M solution of NH4C2H3O2 at pH 7. A study was conducted to ascertain whether this determination can be performed by employing a simple diffusion technique previously developed for direct inorganic-N analysis of soils. Values obtained for 10 diverse Illinois surface soils following overnight NH4 saturation were co...

Comparison of artificial neural network and multivariate regression methods in prediction of soil cation exchange capacity (Case study: Ziaran region)

Investigation of soil properties like Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) plays important roles in study of environmental reaserches as the spatial and temporal variability of this property have been led to development of indirect methods in estimation of this soil characteristic. Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) provide an alternative by estimating soil parameters from more readily available soil data...

Assessment of spatial variability of cation exchange capacity with kriging and cokriging

Cation exchange capacity (CEC) is one of the most important soil attributes which control some basic properties of soil such as acidity, water and nutrient retaining capacity. However, the measurement of cation exchange capacity in large areas is time consuming and requires high expenses. One way to save time and expenses is to use simple soil covariates and geostatistical methods in mapping CE...
